Barbados to host CaFa 2024 at Pelican Village, know schedule & performers here

Barbados is set to host the 14th edition of the Caribbean Fine Art Fair (CaFa) from March 6 to 10, 2024, at Bagnall’s Point Gallery in Pelican Village Craft Centre.

Barbados is set to host the 14th edition of the Caribbean Fine Art Fair (CaFa) from March 6 to 10, 2024, at Bagnall’s Point Gallery in Pelican Village Craft Centre. The event will highlight the works of over 45 contemporary Caribbean and Diaspora artists, including fashion, film, and performance.

The CaFa Fair executive director, Anderson M Pilgrim, expressed his delight as the renowned artists from 16 Caribbean nations will showcase their talent. The fair will display the diversity of local artists and experts. 

“This year’s CaFa Fair Barbados presents a balanced selection of emerging and internationally known artists representing 16 Caribbean Nations, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, the USA and the UK”, added director Pilgrim. Continuing his statement, he added, “We are excited about our scheduled programming featuring an array of regional experts and practitioners.”

According to Daniel Hort, executive director of Onomatopoeia Art and co-creator of the event, this fair will help local cultural creativity flourish with international interest in Caribbean art.

“With the incredible international growth and interest in Caribbean fine art, the opportunity to present a broader vision of the cultural creativity from the region grows as well”, added Director Hort.

In 2023, they introduced Cosmoda Runaway, which marked the major element of the Fashion Showcase. The event will enhance the opportunities to work with renowned and famous fashion pageants to showcase the style, colours and artistry of the carnival. 

Caribbean and Diaspora Contemporary artists

This year’s Fine Arts Show will feature a strong representation of the Francophone Caribbean, with exhibitors Crystal N Art Gallery Guadeloupe and CoLab Studio from Martinique, as well as several artists from the Republic of Haiti.

Noting this, another special feature is the Artphoria exhibition showcasing three contemporary Barbadian artists, presented by the Barbadian curatorial team Artiverse in collaboration with the Bridgetown International Arts Festival.

Dominica: Hilroy Fingal, Aaron Hamilton, Carla Armour, Margeaux Larocque and Michael Lees.

Jamaica: Barbara Russell and Bernard S. Hoyesa.

Barbados: Chris Cumberbatch, Malique Shorey, Cher Antoinette Corbin, Ras Ilix Heartman, Ann Rudder and Steve Reid.

St Kitts and Nevis: Elodie Cage-Smith and Tau Battice

Guyana: Richlin Burnett-Ryan

St Vincent and the Grenadines: Weldon Ryan

Trinidad and Tobago: Tavernelle Wells

Schedule of the CaFa Fair 2024

March 7 will feature Caribbean fashion to explore and understand the colours, styles, and passions of the fashion industry of the nations.

March 8 will host a performance of Barbadian and International performers, designers and Cosmoda Runway.

The fair will organize a workshop by the painter S Ross Browne and Printmaker Moses Ros on March 9.

Moreover, CaFa 2024 will also hold presentations and panel discussions on March 10 on international interest-related topics under the theme “Artists for Change: Supporting Climate Change Awareness in the Caribbean.”

Noting this, the discussion topics consist of initiatives to address the current environmental, social, and economic impact of climate change, among other things.
