Air Canada celebrates 75th Anniversary of flying to and from Barbados

The Canadian airline, Air Canada marked the 75th anniversary of flying to and from Barbados on Tuesday.

Passengers and crew members onboard the flight were given a special welcome at the Grantley Adams International Airport by stilt walkers, dancers and a tuk band.

This significant milestone was also celebrated with a cocktail reception held at the Hilton Hotel in Barbados.

Enhanced relations between Canada and Barbados

Shedding light on the celebration, the Minister of Tourism & International Transport of Barbados, Ian Gooding-Edghill called it a testament to the enduring bond between Barbados and Canada. He added that it is a relationship that is truly built on trust, collaboration and mutual respect.

The tourism minister of Barbados noted that this 75 years of partnership with Air Canada underscores the commitment of the authorities of both the nations towards enhancing their connectivity, cultural exchange and economic prosperity.

Minister Gooding-Edghill added that this connection has led to Barbados being the longest-served destination in the Caribbean region for Air Canada. He further noted that this partnership between airline and the nation has played a crucial role in shaping the tourism industry of the country.

74,000 Canadians visited Barbados

The Tourism Minister, Ian Gooding-Edghill shed light on the number of passengers arrived via Air Canada. He noted that as of last month, the island nation has welcomed more than 74,000 Canadians this year.

Also, the nation welcomed around 2.7 million Canadians in the period between 1967 and 2023.

Focussing on the data unveiled by them, Minister Gooding-Edghill said that the Canadian visitors arrived in Barbados as strangers and left as friends. He added that they have formed a strong and sweet relationship with the Canadian visitors that will continue for years.

The Chief Executive Officer of Barbados, Andrea Franklin also reiterated her commitment to continue to offer Canadian visitors with an exceptional experience on the island.

She added that Barbados has something to offer to all their visitors, whether it’s about authentic Bajan experience, romantic hotspots, vibrant culinary heritage, thrilling sports or seascape adventures.

Air Canada: First Flight to restart services to Barbados post COVID

After COVID-19 pandemic, Air Canada was the first airline to resume its services to Barbados.

The Barbados Tourism Minister said that this partnership is not just about air routes but also about creating opportunities, building bridges and ensuring that the joy of travel remains accessible and exciting for the travellers.

Tourism Minister to continue relationship for another 75 years

Minister Ian Gooding-Edghill expressed his desire to continue the relationship with Air Canada for another 75 plus years.

He added that this partnership has connected people across borders and foster strong ties between both the nations. The Minister added that he is looking forward to celebrating the bond and building greater opportunities for partnership with Air Canada in the years to come.
