Security personnel must renew licences by month-end.

Bridgetown, Barbados: Security personnel, private investigators and security guard agencies are reminded to renew their licences by Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

It is to be noted that persons are supposed to visit the Investigation Unit of the Prime Minister’s office at Weymouth Corporate Centre, St Michael near Roebuck Street for the renewable of the licenses.

It is to be added that under the Private Investigators and Security Guards Act, private investigators and security guards are not allowed to access employment unless or until they renew their licenses. People are advised not to offer any services in terms of expired licenses.

According to the law, any person who contravenes the Act “is guilty of an offence, and is liable on conviction to a fine of $5,000 or imprisonment of two years or both.”

Moreover, the persons are expected to submit a valid Police Certificate of Character along with the renewable application. Noting this, that particular certificate is valid for six months only after the issue date.

Not only this, but the non-nationals who will be applying for the license or for the renewable one must possess valid documents such as residential proof of Barbados and work permits as the Government has made it mandatory for all the security persons to renew licences by the month-end.

“Non-nationals applying for, or renewing licences must provide documentation verifying that they are residents or citizens of Barbados, or have work permits, which allow them to work”, highlighted Barbados Today newspaper.

Following this, the entities are suggested that they should verify the license of private investigators and security guards when offering employment and services. As mentioned above, no person is allowed to continue to work with their expired licence.

“Entities should ensure that security agencies, private investigators and security guard licenses are current when engaging their services”, remarked Barbados newspaper.

It is to be noted that in case of any query, people may contact Investigation Officer Paul Morris through email.
