35-year-old farmer chopped to death in Wanakai Village

Georgetown, Guyana: Tommy Roberts, a 35-year-old Farmer of Wanakai Village, was murdered on January 1, 2024 in his village.
It is to be noted that police are investigating an alleged murder committed on a farmer in the North West district at Region One. The incident occurred at about 19:10 hours on Monday.
As per the inquiries, the victim and the suspect were imbibing when a heated argument took place between them. Consequently, the victim was about to walk away from the scene when the suspect armed himself with a cutlass.
As a consequence, the cutlass dealt him with multiple chops about his body.
Further, the victim tried to run from the site but unfortunately collapsed a short distance away. People wandering there took an immediate step and informed the police about the matter.
In due course of time, police and ranks from the Mabaruma Police Station responded and arrived at the crime scene. They coordinated with the members of the Wanakai Community Policing Group (CPG), and after a relentless and untiring search, they managed to arrest the suspect.
Notably, the accused fled from the scene initially and was hiding in some thick vegetation within the village. The body of the victim was taken to the Mabaruma District Hospital, where he was seen by a doctor on duty.
On his arrival, the doctors declared him dead.
It is to be noted that the suspect was escorted to the Mabaruma Police Station, where he was placed into custody pending further investigations.
This news has been circulated on social media platforms in a short span of time. While reacting to the news, many people expressed their views by commenting on the post.
One such comment by Melissa Fraser read as, “Oh god when will this stop what is going on in this country every day something so sad may his soul RIP.”
Another person by the name of Ltz Bolona wrote, “So sad to hear you gone Tommy…u will miss from many friends and family’s Rip…”
