20-Y-O recovering after being attacked at Leonora, WCD

Georgetown, Guyana: Ganesh Damin, a 20-year-old recovering after being stabbed at Leonora in West Coast Demerara (WCD) on January 1, 2024, between 01:00 and 01:30 hours.

It is to be noted that the victim was identified to be from Lot 29, Anna Catherina Brickwall Street, at WCD.

It is to be added in the remarks of Damin’s relative that the victim was at a Chinese at Leonora consuming alcoholic beverages with his friend. It has also been said that the victim’s friend was allegedly approached by the suspect, and he had taken away his cell phone as well.

 After the victim’s friend’s phone was taken by the suspect, Damin went to the man and politely asked him to return his friend’s phone. On his asking, the suspect reportedly returned the phone in a peaceful manner, after which he (the suspect) left the location.

Further, the 20-year-old and his friend resumed drinking, and after they were done, they tried to locate a taxi to go to their homes but were unable to find one.

Then, they walked from the Chinese to Leonora and went to the mall to get a taxi. As soon as they reached the mall, the man who allegedly took away his friend’s phone was also present there. 

Noting this, he started to attack Damin, and in due course of time, he whipped out a knife and stabbed Damin multiple times about his body.

Moreover, the accused and his friend were arrested by the officers in the region on the following day. Police identified the suspect as Shawn Adams, who attacked Damin.

Adams was charged with an attempt to murder Damin at WCD. As per the reports, the accused appeared unrepresented at the Leonora Magistrate Court yesterday.

Notably, he was not required to plea to the charge when the charge was read to him, and he was remanded to the prison. The matter was adjourned to February 21, 2024 for report.
