The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew responded to the allegations made by the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) that not all political parties were invited to the stakeholders meeting held on Friday 23rd August 2024.
In response to the claims made by PLP, PM Tettance Drew noted that an official email invitation was sent to all the registered political parties in St. Kitts and Nevis, including Peoples Labour Party on Monday, 19th August 2024.
He shared that the invitation mentioned the main purpose of the meeting and the significance of their participation in the process. PM Drew asserted that all the parties were also asked to verify this information to avoid any misunderstandings.
Notably, the recently hosted stakeholder meeting marked the start of the administration’s 90-day initiative. The main objective of this campaign is to fight crime and violence while maintaining citizen security.
The Prime Minister stated that this engagement of all the stakeholders, including the PLP, Nevis Reformation Party (NRP), Concerned Citizen Movement (CCM) and the St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) is crucial to their common goal of enhancing security and safety of all the citizens and making St Kitts and Nevis, a peaceful and terror-free nation.
PM Drew stated that he is extremely disappointed with the spread of misinformation by the PLP. However, he once again invited the Peoples Labour Party to participate in this significant consultation to enhance national security.
The Prime Minister added that their government is still looking forward to continue to collaborate with all other political parties. He ensured that every voice will be heard and respected despite any political conflict.
He added that all these political parties will make all the possible efforts towards their shared goal of building trust, enhancing safety and create a secure environment for all the citizens of the country. The Prime Minister remarked that he will make sure that all the voices and opinions are prioritized and respected in the decision-making process.
Moreover, PM Drew also emphasised on allocating the largest budget for the security of the nation. He stated that they are providing their police force with the optimum resources, training and technology they need to curb crime rates from the country.
He stated that crime is not a policing issue but a societal issue. Therefore, this 90-day campaign will play an instrumental role in bringing stakeholders and representatives from church and religious institutions, political parties, sports associations, social clubs, private sector businesses, the government, and other community-based organizations together to share their ideas to fight against crime and violence.
