St Kitts and Nevis: PM Terrance Drew to emphasise good governance during second parliament session

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, expressed his pleasure and outlined that the second (2nd) reading for the good governance agenda will happen. He shared this news with the people of his country through social media on February 22, 2023, and said, “Greetings, My dear people of St Kitts and Nevis, today will be a momentous day in the country’s parliament, where the II reading for the good governance agenda will happen.”

Prime Minister Drew emphasized that the nation and people of St Kitts and Nevis had been promised that it would be done, but for around seven years, there was nothing but deception. “Such deception was seen, and meaningful transformation was voted for in the interest of good governance,” he furthermore outlined.

“These laws are vital to the continued progress of St Kitts and Nevis as an independent nation. These laws will seek to get rid of social problems like corruption and self-serving public figures who seek to enrich themselves as well as their families,” Prime Minister Drew stated.

Dr Drew, furthermore, appealed to the people of his nation for their full support and stated that much is being said to distract, but he encouraged the people to ignore the noise and stay focused. “Together, we all will make history and transform the governance landscape for the better,” he asserted.

Earlier, Prime Minister Drew shared an update on the Social Security Board 45th Anniversary celebrations; a Stakeholders Breakfast Forum was held this morning at the St Kitts Marriott Ballroom. The Anniversary was being celebrated under the theme “Transform, Reform, Thrive Social Security 45”.

As per the update by the PM, the Forum was well attended with representatives from the Social Security Board of Directors, Senior Government Officials, Former Ministers of Government, various private sector entities, and other stakeholders.

It further informed that actuary, LifeWorks Derek Osborne, gave a rather insightful and informative presentation of the 13th Actuarial review of the Social Security Fund. Social Security is the largest safety net programme that the Government has. It has remained strong up to this point, but we do recognize that for it to remain strong, there are critical things that must be done, and these things require political will.
