20 Migrant repatriates to Haiti by US Coast Guard

The US coast Guard said that the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Confidence took 20 Haitian migrants back to Cap Haiten, Haiti, on Thursday from the 11 miles east to Lake Worth, Florida.

They informed that the Sector Miami watchstanders got a statement from a US Customs and Border Protection maritime patrol aircraft crew that they stopped a 28-foot long boat with 23 migrants, out of which 21 were Haitian migrants and 1 Colombian national abroad.

US Homeland Security Investigations and the US Coast Guard said that the Colombian national was brought aground for further investigation and interrogation to recover further suspects.

The US Coat Guard said that 20 migrants had been transferred to the Cutter Confidence so that they can be taken back, and 1 person was brought to the ground for further investigation and screening.

Lt. Edwin Valentin, Coast Guard liaison to Haiti, the Coast Guard and their partners continuously watched the Caribbean and surrounding waters for illegal and unsafe migration. Taking to the sea to hide themselves in the country was very dangerous. They urged them not to risk their and their loved ones’ lives.

The US Coast Guard said that they had stopped many migrants, out of which 271 migrants have been stopped in the year of 2021. 418 Haitians have been stopped in the year 2020, and in 2019, they stopped 932 migrants.

These numbers show that the total number of at-sea interdictions, landings and disruptions in the Florida Straits, Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

In December 2020, the Coast Guard Cutter Resolute crew repatriated 110 Haitian migrants after ending a voyage of approximately 50 miles to North of Cap-Haitien, Haiti.

A forward-deployed Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew saw a 40-foot vessel loaded with people excess than limit.

Resolute’s crew diverted and brought the people aboard out of an abundance of caution for the safety of life at sea.
