PM Roosevelt Skerrit congratulates Liz Truss on appointment as next Prime Minister of UK

Dominica: Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, has extended his best wishes to the Prime Minister elect leader of The Conservative Party – Liz Truss, on her appointment as the next and newest leader of the United Kingdom.

Mary Elizabeth Truss, better known to her political peers as Liz Truss, was elected as the leader of the Conservative Party. She is expected to be appointed the Prime Minister of the country on Tuesday, September 6, by the queen at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where she is spending the summer.

Dr Roosevelt Skerrit took to his Twitter account to congratulate the new Prime Minister elect. He wrote, “On behalf of the people and Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, I send my warmest congratulations to @trussliz on being declared the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. I anticipate the continuance of our firm and cordial cooperation.”

Prime Minister Skerrit of the Commonwealth of Dominica expressed that he hoped the relations between the two countries would remain cordial and firm following the new leader’s appointment.

Liz Truss will be succeeding Boris Johnson at the Prime Minister’s office after the latter resigned from his position as the head of the Government after receiving backlash for his scandalous term at the Prime Minister’s Office. He had begun to lose the favour of the lawmakers of the country.

Liz truss will be the fourth Prime Minister from the Conservative Party since the country hosted their last elections in 2015. She has been chosen as the new head of the Government following a leadership contest in which only 170,000 dues-paying members of the Conservative Party were allowed to vote. Truss received 81,326 votes, compared to former treasury chief Rishi Sunak who lost to her after receiving a total of 60,399 votes.
