Trinidad and Tobago: The Tourism Authority of Trinidad and Tobago welcomed the crew of MV Dawn Humanitarian vessel to the shores of the island nation. The crew is expected to stay in port until 15th August 2024 and was provided with crucial destination information with a vision to enhance their stay.
As per the details, the vessel will conduct routine maintenance and restock on supplies to provide humanitarian aid to Caribbean islands that have been adversely affected by the hurricane season. The vessel was piloted by the Captain, Glenn Dalby who received an information package and the warm welcome from the Tourism Development Officer, Tourism Trinidad Limited, Shakila Medina.
The MV Dawn Humanitarian Vessel is a self-sustained humanitarian relief vessel which has been designed to travel within a matter of hours to provide assistance in the event of any natural disaster within the Caribbean region. It is operating since early 2023 and is a key component of disaster response capabilities and plays a huge role in enhancing capacity to support partners throughout the Caribbean.
Notably, the Hurricane Beryl came out as a monstrous episode for Caribbean region as it caused huge destructions to several small islands, which now might take several of years for them to recover from those loss. The beryl made landfall in Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Barbados and resulted in toppling trees, power lines, toring entire roofs and houses, disturbing the overall growth of the small island nations.
Along with that, Beryl left thousands of people homeless, and it also witnessed the deaths of around 10 people in the Caribbean region. Following the devastating effects of the Hurricane Beryl, it has become very difficult for the small island nations to recover from the loss. Therefore, several institutions and countries are coming forward to help island nations recover from the disastrous effects caused by the Beryl.
Therefore, the aid by MV Dawn Humanitarian vessel will play a huge role in helping Caribbean nations and will give them crucial assistance such as food, clean water, medical supplies and other essentials to impacted communities efficiently and promptly.
The Tourism Officer, Shakila Medina extended gratitude to MV Dawn Humanitarian vessel for their help and stated that their visit to the country marks the beginning of a promising journey that will play a huge role in enhancing the nation’s humanitarian initiatives and foster closer ties with regional partners.
She added that with the support of MV Dawn Humanitarian vessel, the government of Trinidad and Tobago aims to enhance disaster preparedness and humanitarian efforts, promoting regional resilience and cooperation.
