Antigua and Barbuda: Jolly Harbour to be transformed into Nikki Beach Resort

Antigua and Barbuda: The Jolly Harbour is all set to be converted into Nikki Beach Resort as the demolition of the properties has started in Antigua and Barbuda. The new resort is aimed at enhancing the tourism sector and providing proper access to the natural beauty of the island nation for the travellers.

The works department arrived at the beach and demolished the structure to remove the long derelict Tranquility Bay Resort. However, the beach can still be accessed from the main road, as announced by the government of Antigua and Barbuda.

As per the reports, the iconic Pop-Up Beach Bar is also being demolished by the government to create a new tourism hotspot on the property. It has been stripped of all furniture and formerly known as Castaways which welcomed guests for more than two decades. It has been closed since last month and is expected to be transformed into a new property for the enhancement of the tourism sector.

Niki Beach is known for its luxury beach club resort and offers an array of tourism options to the travellers from across the globe. It is credited with inventing the resort with its huge flagship worldwide.

Antigua and Barbuda is decided as another location for the construction of branch of the beach as it has the flagship venue in Miami.

Jolly Beach is regarded as one of the island’s best beaches, including resorts located next to world-famous Jolly Harbour. It has reopened to visitors for the first time in almost three years and has undergone refurbishment. The 464-complex last closed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

People reacted to the project and said that this was quite sudden while criticising and supporting the decision of the government. One added,” Crazy how all of a sudden the trend is towards high end beach restaurants. Green Island, Maiden Island, Hermitage Bay and now Jolly Habour.”

Another social media user commented,” And a large parking area intended for both residents of and visitors to Jolly Harbour is fenced and will be part of this new development. When I say intended, I mean that when the entire area was sold for US $1 to the original Swiss developer, government sold the people’s land with certain prerequisites in mind. They have been forgotten and this area will become a strange land to our people. Sad the way government has ignored what’s been going on down here over the last ten years.”
