Guyana: Ministry of Health receives Wheelchair, Radiological equipment donations
Guyana: On Tuesday, September 20, in the Ministry of Health’s compound Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, received 50 wheelchairs from Mr Sheldon Hazelwood, President of the Rotary Club of Georgetown.

Guyana: On Tuesday, September 20, in the Ministry of Health’s compound Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, received 50 wheelchairs from Mr Sheldon Hazelwood, President of the Rotary Club of Georgetown.
Through a collaboration with the Mohan Thani Foundation, the Rotary Club of Georgetown has been able to distribute wheelchairs to individuals, organisations and hospitals in Regions outside of Georgetown. The Ministry of Health’s Disability and Rehabilitation Department happens to be a beneficiary of this generous deed.
In brief remarks, Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, expressed gratitude on the Ministry’s behalf. Dr Anthony also added that this donation is quite timely, as there has been a continuous influx of requests for wheelchairs from persons within the Regions.
The wheelchairs will assist the caregivers in daily routines and help the individuals who need them to gain some independence.
Also present at the simple handing-over ceremony was Dr Ariane Mangar, the Director of Disability Rehabilitation Services, and other representatives of the Rotary Club of Georgetown.
Another donation was received at the National Blood Transfusion Services (NBTS) Boardroom; Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, received a donation of Radiological equipment from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Among the donated equipment were Radioisotope Identifier Devices, Electronic Personal Dosimeter, Multi-Purpose Survey Meter and Personal Radiation Detectors. These items will be utilised by the Radiology Imaging Department of the Ministry of Health (MOH), Standards and Technical Services.
During the simple handing-over ceremony, representatives from the stated department expressed their appreciation for the substantial donation, which will support inspections, supervisory visits and radiological emergencies within the Regional facilities.
Among those present in this morning’s brief handing-over ceremony were the Director of Standards and Technical Services, Dr Julian Amsterdam; National Liaison Officer attached to Guyana International Atomic Energy Agency, Petal Padmini Surujpaul and other staff members.
