The vaccination requirement at the government workplaces now has been extended to the month of mid-February 2022 by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.
Making the announcements in a recent conference, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley expressed his optimism and hoped more students would get back to school by next month, which can be achieved if more of the adult population inoculated themselves.
Apart from this, he expressed his satisfaction with the Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs in seeking recommendations for vaccinations in the Public Service as he noted that significant proposals were received over the last few weeks.
Below are the other announcements made by the Prime Minister:
- Beach time has been extended to 2 pm, which means people can go and enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of the beach from 5 am to 2 pm.
- Rivers will be re-opened but along with some restrictions, which are
a) No large gatherings (not more than ten persons),
b) No alcohol consumption,
c) No fires, No music and No parties.
PM Rowley further hinted about the possibility of a Carnival taking place by this year if the COVID-19 situation in the country goes well. The festivities will be ‘numerically smaller. However, the carnival authorities and the Ministeries responsible for this will get into discussions about organizing an event.
A team will also be established to look at and monitor the hospital system, which will examine the current conditions and take care of the COVID-19 patients in Trinidad and Tobago. PM Rowley highlighted that the team would be providing a report each week, which will be made available to the general public for transparency in its work.
The team is comprised of – Professor Terrence Seemungal, Professor Emerita, Phyllis Pitt-Miller, Dr Anton Cumberbatch, Dr Vidya Dean, and Professor Donald Simeon.
He furthermore addressed the citizens noted, Trinidad and Tobago is now at the point where they are prepared to live with the contagious viral disease.
Giving response to the claims of the Opposition leader Kamla Persad Bissessar, the prime minister underscored, the government’s intention is not to shut down the economy until the situation of the COVID-19 gets worse or something super damaging happens.
