Castries, Saint Lucia: The Water and Sewage Company Inc (WASCO) is set to temporarily shut down the northern water supply system for maintenance work aimed at improving water service reliability.

According to the Government of Saint Lucia, the maintenance work is scheduled for either February 28 or March 6, 2024. The public is asked to collect and execute their storage plans on the finalised date.

Suspension of the water supply was necessary to facilitate the repairs on the raw water line.

WASCO stated that the repairs would create an interruption and inconvenience to the people. However, the repairs are necessary as they will foster the efficiency of the water supply system.

The water supply department is committed to providing better water quality and a more resilient infrastructure, which will further enhance reliability.

Further, WASCO encourages the Federation’s people to be prepared for the upcoming water shutdown and suggests they increase their potable water storage capacity.

Moreover, WASCO appreciates and lauds the customers for their understanding and cooperation during this short-term disruption and assures them that they are committed to completing the repairs as soon as possible.

Notably, the water supply technicians work tirelessly to ensure that customers will receive an uninterrupted supply of water.

Additionally, last month, the people across areas such as Rose Hill, Lower Entrepot, Patterson Gap, Lastic Hill, Lower Morne Road and many others experienced a suspension of water supply due to a damaged main line on the road leading to the Theobalds Treatments Plants in Ciceron

For this purpose, a crew has been dispatched to perform the necessary repair work.

The people across the region took to their social media handle (Facebook) to express their frustration regarding the water interruption.

While reacting to the news, a person named Cecil Peter commented, “Nothing new. It’s been five days and there’s no water in my area. (Castries North) how can I store water when there isn’t any?”
