The UK airline Virgin Atlantic has announced the cessation of its operations in the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean. The main reason behind the ceasing of the operation is called out to be the “reviewing of its network.”
As per the reports, the Virgin Atlantic will operate its final flight from Turks and Caicos on 21st February 2025. Meanwhile, the last flight to Bahamas will depart from London on 23rd February, 2025. The Virgin Atlantic is currently operating two flights a week to Turks and Caicos and three flights to the Bahamas.
While shedding light on this decision, the spokesperson of Virgin Atlantic noted that they are continuing to focus on optimizing their network as they are regularly reviewing the destinations they are flying to. He further asserted that this decision has been made by them with a vision to increase their frequencies to Antigua, Barbados and Cape Town next year. Therefore, they had to sadly suspend their operations to the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos.
For the same, the airline has apologized to their passengers flying to the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos. And, have promised to compensate those who had already booked their flights. They added that they would contact their customers to discuss their next step so that they can decide whether to provide them a full refund or an alternative flight with another carrier.
Moreover, the airline mentioned that after the cancellation of the operations from the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos, they would increase their services to Antigua, offering four flights a week for the northern winter 2024 season and Barbuda services, expanding to 10 times a week. Along with that, the airline will continue to operate its services to Montego Bay, four times in a week.
The airline also asserted about their seasonal flight from London to Cape Town and added it will be extended by a month that will end on 30th April 2025. It is to be said that this suspension of the latest routes is a growing list of routes served and dropped by the Virgin Atlantic so that they can sustain revenue returns year-round through the optimum combination of destinations across the world.
