The UWI Global Campus Saint Lucia is all set to host the 8th Annual Patricia Ismond Literary Workshop on Friday, 9 February 2024.

Notably, Kendel Hippolyte, the facilitator, will guide the workshop under the theme. The theme for the workshop is “Exploring the importance of Dramatic devices in the various elements of play construction.”

The workshop has been dedicated to the renowned literary figure and long-serving UWI lecturer, Dr Patricia Ismond. Dr Ismond serves a dual purpose by celebrating her legacy and in whose name a generous scholarship for Saint Lucian students attending the UWI has been established.

The scholarship plays a huge role in providing the required support to the Saint Lucian students who are pursuing Bed Literacy studies at the UWI Global Campus Saint Lucia site. The workshop is scheduled to take place at the conference room of the UWI Global Campus Saint Lucia site, Morne Fortune, Castries from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on the said date.

It is to be noted, that it is a noble laureate festival activity which is especially designed for CSEC English B and Theatre arts teachers across the island.

Moreover, this is the 31st Nobel Laureate Festival and various events are being conducted in the festival from 7 January to 9 February 2024. The festival is being celebrated under the theme “Celebrating excellence: “Inspiring our collective imagination; fostering national pride.”

Along with the workshop being held on 9 Feb, two more events will be conducted in February, which include the 16th Annual Awards of Excellence, this ceremony aims to acknowledge and celebrate the people who have displayed outstanding accomplishments and contributions in their respective fields during the academic year 2022-2023. The award ceremony will take place at Sandals Grande, Pigeon Point, Gros Islet at 10:00 am.

Further, a Sagicor Schools Choir Competition is scheduled to take place on Friday, 2 February 2024, at St Mary’s College Auditorium, Vigie, Castries, at 10:00 am.

Furthermore, the Chester Williams Photographic Exhibition is to take place from Monday, 8 to Tuesday, 23 January 2024. This exhibition displays three different sections based on “The Land, The People, The Light.” It will be conducted at Castries City Hall, Peynier Street from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

A special lecture is to be provided by Dr Travis Weekes in memory of Sir Derek Walcott on Tuesday, 23 January 2024 at the Finance Administrative Centre, Pointe Seraphine, Castries at 7:30 pm.

On 25 January 2024, Dr James Fletcher to provide a memorial lecture on Sir Arthur Lewis from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the Finance Administrative Centre, Pointe Seraphine, Castries at 7:30 pm.
