Two Guyana Defence Force ranks once again nabbed with 316 lbs of narcotics during another successful intelligence-led Police operation conducted by Special Branch and other ranks.

Georgetown, Guyana: Two Guyana Defence Force ranks once again nabbed with 316 lbs of narcotics during another successful intelligence-led Police operation conducted by Special Branch and other ranks.
As per the details, the ranks from the Special Branch and other police received an information and they immediately reacted on it and went to Mandela Avenue, in the vicinity of Space Gym (behind the botanical garden). As soon as the officers reached there, they stopped a Route 42 motor bus with registration number BTT 27 which was proceeding south along Mandela Avenue.
As per the details, the bus was driven at the time by Edward McCalmont, a 40-year-old Corporal of the GDF, attached to Camp Ayanganna and a resident of Kaneville, EBD. On the other hand, the GDF rank, John Johnson, a 24-year-old Lance Corporal attached to Base Camp Stephenson and a resident of Timehri, EBD, was the other occupant and was sitting in the front passenger seat.
According to the information shared by the authorities, they stopped the GDF ranks based on the information they received that they were trafficking in narcotics. Subsequently, they conducted a search of the vehicle and found 49 large bulky parcels which were wrapped with transparent plastic on the bus seats.
The officers opened the parcels in the presence of those two Guyana Defence ranks and found that they contained a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis. Following the discovery of the suspected cannabis, the authorities told them of the offense they committed and arrested them.
The GDF ranks were later taken to the East La Penitence Police station, along with the bus and the suspected cannabis which, when weighed and amounted to 316 pounds.
As per the details, the soldiers are still in custody and the authorities are continuing with their process of investigation. This latest drug bust by the Police came in the wake of another similar bust which was held last week, where two GDF ranks namely, Staff Sergeant Adisa Higgins and Sergeant Clovis Sam were caught with, 154 lbs of Narcotics.
