Nevis: A 15-year-old Troy Nisbett, who registered history by becoming the first ever swimmer from St Kitts and Nevis to participate in the Swimming Categories of the Olympic Games, competed in the 50m freestyle race and finished at 5th spot in his heat.
The young athlete garnered huge attention and received a humungous amount of love from all the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis. The citizens lauded his journey to the Olympic stage and stated that it was nothing short of magical; he carried the hopes and dreams of several people of his nation on his shoulders.
The young athlete faced several significant challenges, as he used to practice without an Olympic-sized pool. Troy honed his skills in the sea at Oalie Beach, which is a testament to his unwavering commitment and dedication to his passion and representing his nation on an international platform.
Troy competed against swimmers with access to state-of-the-art facilities and more extensive experience in the 50m freestyle race at the Paris 2024 Olympic yesterday and claimed 5th spot.
The supporters of Troy extended him congratulations and acknowledged his determination and stated that this young boy competed against athletes who have the luxury of 24/7 access to top-notch swimming pools and significant funding.
They added those top swimmers could clock in 22/23 seconds, on the other hand, Troy’s impressive 28 second finish shows his potential that if he will have access to modern facilities and equipment then he also holds the capacity of defeating those swimmers.
This debut of Troy Nisbett shed light on his hard work, talent and the constant support which he has received from St Kitts and Nevis. Along with that, his achievement is a shining example of what can be accomplished with determination and passion. Notably, Troy Nisbett has been constantly training and participating at various events over the last two years across the Caribbean in preparation for the event.
Also, two more athletes from St Kitts and Nevis have headed to Paris i.e. Zahria Allers-Liburd who will also be making her Olympic debut and compete in 100m and Naquille Harris who will compete in the Men’s 100m champion.
