SLP-led government in St Lucia proclaimed new curfew hours. Along with this, the government declared a complete shutdown on the island for Sunday. These strict measures are taken to mitigate the rising COVID-19 cases noticed in the past few days.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs on Thursday registered 2 deaths in St Lucia due to COVID-19. New updation stated that there are 220 new COVID-19 positive cases, which are adding more to the total number of positive cases on the island. 8,542 total COVID-19 positive cases have been logged till now.
The government ordered that the decided curfew would start to begin on Friday, and the time of curfew will begin from 7:00 pm and end at 4:00 am. On Saturday, it would start at 4:00 pm, and end at 4:00 am. On Sunday, there would be a 24-hour shutdown. The new measures would be in effect till September 14.
The government suspended the sale and disposal of intoxicating liquor bars, restaurants and rum shops. The authorities announced the suspension of dine-in services in every restaurant and food establishment. Take-away and delivery services have been permitted.
The government would permit social and recreational activities at hotels during the curfew hours. The government, with this, suspended the water sports and water rides during the 24-hr weekend curfew.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness urged the citizens of St Lucia to follow the COVID-19 protocols that the government had announced for mitigating the effect of the covid-19 virus on the island. They encouraged the people to get vaccinated as it is the only weapon left to fight against the virus.
Till present, 34,901people had received the first dose of the Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine, and 27,942 have become fully vaccinated after getting the second shot of the vaccine. In the case of the Pfizer vaccine, 3,175 citizens had received the first jab, and 71 individuals got the second dose. The ministry stated.
