PM Philip J Pierre leads delegation to 78th UNGA
The government of Saint Lucia has announced that Prime Minister Philip J Pierre will lead the Saint Lucian delegation to the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Castries, Saint Lucia: The government of Saint Lucia has announced that Prime Minister Philip J Pierre will lead the Saint Lucian delegation to the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The General Assembly will convene from September 18 to September 26, 2023.
According to the government, the Prime Minister and his delegation left their home country on September 17, 2023.
PM Pierre will be one of the ministers who will address the General Assembly of the United Nations. According to the official statement by the government, during the address, the Prime Minister will emphasise the life-altering and potentially life-threatening realities Saint Lucia and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) face as the global climate further destabilises.
While during the high-level General Debate, PM Philip J Pierre will also reiterate the urgent need for the biggest carbon emitters in the world to keep the commitments on Loss and Damage financing and forgiveness policies to better enable Small Island Developing States to transition to climate-resilient development.
As per the schedule shared by the General Assembly, the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia will be presenting the address at the 78th UNGA on September 22, 2023.
Along with this, Prime Minister Pierre, during the sidelines of the UNGA, will interact with the Saint Lucian diaspora in an event named “An Afternoon with the Diaspora.” This interactive session was facilitated on September 17 by the Consulate General of Saint Lucia in New York.
In addition to this, PM Philip J Pierre will also participate in the Climate Ambition Summit on September 20. During this, he will deliver his statement reiterating the urgency of now for SIDS. Along with this, he will also attend several bilateral engagements, which will encourage the strengthening of diplomatic relations of Saint Lucia with other countries.
According to the government of Saint Lucia, Dr Ernest Hilaire, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investment and Creative Industries, will serve as the Prime Minister during the absence of PM Pierre.
