On Thursday, the protest in Cap- Haitian turned violent when during the protest after a gunshot, one of the protestors shouted and threatened the police that if President Jovenel Moise would not get justice, then they would disrupt his upcoming funeral.
This is really messed up since Jovenel died, said David Daniel, who stood in the doorway of a restaurant he co-owns as he watched the scene unfold. But he said he really doesn’t think the unrest will have the effect demonstrators intend. Violence has been here in Haiti since I was a kid, so I don’t think violence is going to change anything.
On Thursday, a priest told the authorities that the violence would be affecting the country more in future. The priest said this at the memorial service.
Rev. Jean-Gilles Sem said that the killings and kidnappings should stop. According to him, poor communities are the most affected. “We’re tired.”
The Mass that was gathered at the cathedral in the northern coastal city of Cap-Haitien, which was about half-full and supporters of Moise, kept interrupting as they cried out and accused Haiti’s elite of killing the president.
The mayor of Cap-Haitien arrived at the cathedral with heavy security as men with high-powered weapons stood to watch during the entire Mass.
First lady Martine Moïse along with her three children, attended a religious ceremony. Many government officials were also present, including newly installed Prime Minister Ariel Henry, who offered their condolences. It was her first public appearance since arriving in Cap-Haitien. She did not make any public comments.
President of Haiti Jovenel Moise was assassinated by a group of unidentified people with guns. They assassinated the president by shooting him with guns at 1:00 a.m on Wednesday. The killing of President Jovenel Moise comes amid deepening political and economic stability and a spike in gang violence.
The suspects have been arrested for the assassination of Haiti’s President. According to the statements of senior police officials, those 2 suspected are Haitian Americans. Out of them, one was a former bodyguard at the Canadian Embassy in Port au Prince.
Haiti must not “lose its way” after the tragedy that Haiti had experienced in past days and left Haiti critically injured. Martine Moise, the widow of assassinated Haitian President Jovenel Moise, stated.
A new prime minister in Haiti who has been backed by important international diplomats would be taking charge of the country. This decision had been taken to stop the political instability in Haiti that was also one of the reasons for President’s Jovenel Moise’s assassination.
Haiti Elections Minister Mathias Pierre said that Ariel Henry would be taking charge of the Prime Minister of Haiti. Assassinated President Jovenel Moise, before his death, appointed Ariel Henry as the next PM after the time period would get the finish of the interim PM Claude Joseph.
