Cricket West Indies commenced four matches of Round 1 of the West Indies Championship on the 7th, and it will be played till the 10th of February 2024 at four different venues.
The West Indies Championship 2024 is the region’s first-class four-day red ball tournament. It will be held in Jamaica, St Kitts, and Nevis starting today, February 7, with four matches simultaneously contested.
It is to be noted that match officials called off the opening day of the match between Combined Campuses and Colleges and Barbados Pride because of a wet outfield at Chedwin Park in St Catherine.
Another game was played between Jamaica Scorpions and the Windward Islands; Shadrack Descarte made his debut, and the debut cap was presented to him by the captain of the team, Kimani Melius. The toss of the game was won by the Windward Islands, and they decided to bowl first. After 15 overs, Jamaica Scorpions were 36 for 3. The wicket takers from Windward Islands were Shamar Springer, Shermon Lewis and Ryan John.
On the first day of the tournament, Windwards bowled out the Scorpions for 159, and Ryan John of Windward Islands gave a great start to his team as he took 5 wickets by giving away only 43 runs.
Meanwhile, Captain Kimani Melius and Jeremy Solozano take to the crease to see out the final session of the day. Kimani Melius was dismissed at 31 runs, and Johann Jeremiah and Jeremy Solozano continued the game.
Notably, Johann Jeremiah became the second Grenadian to star on day one after Ryan John picked up 5 wickets. Johann Jeremiah scored 66 runs in 103 balls, giving a great start to his team. At the end of Day 1, Windward Islands were 157 for 2 as they trail by just 2 runs at the end of 1st day.
The Leeward Islands faced West Indies Academy at Warner Park. After the first day, the score of Leeward Islands was 137 for 10 and West Indies Academy was 60 for 2. Joshua James of West Indies Academy gave his team a good start, taking three wickets and conceding 11 runs.
Guyana Harpy Eagles played against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force Conaree Cricket Center, St. Kitts and Nevis, in round one of the 2024 West Indies Four-Day Championship. Trinidad and Tobago Red Force won the toss and opted to bat first.
Jason Mohammed keeps the Guyana Harpy Eagles at bat on the opening day. The game was stopped due to bad light, and at the end of Day 1, Trinidad and Tobago’s scores were 215 for 4 from 81.2 overs.
Jason Mohammed scored a century, and Tion Webster scored 50 runs for his team; Amir Jangoo and Vikash Mohan scored 27 and 20 runs, respectively. At the same time, Ronsford Beaton and Veerasammy Permaul of Guyana Harpy Eagles took 2 wickets each.
