Volcano Terror: CARICOM Member States offers aid to house evacuees 

Caribbean: Volcano eruption terror has petrified the whole Caribbean. It made the islands upside and down. People are terrified and evacuating orders are to guard their lives.

In between all the chaos, neighbouring islands of St Vincent and Grenadines like Barbados, St Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago has promised assistance to the people of the nation.

A few hours ago, PNM issued a statement from Chairman of CARICOM and PM of Trinidad and Tobago, Keith Rowley, regarding volcanic eruption, who is currently on COVID-bed (as found positive for COVID-19).

The declaration stated:

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has mobilised to help St Vincent and the Grenadines as it faces the probability of La Soufriere Volcano’s imminent eruption.

Following an evacuation order of the urgent area around the volcano by Prime Minister-Dr the Honourable Ralph Gonsalves, CARICOM Member States have offered aid to house evacuees from the affected region.

The scientific research team from the University of the West Indies (UWI) Seismic Research Centre (SRC) has been in the nation constantly monitoring the volcano and rendering scientific advice to the -government of St Vincent and the Grenadines. The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency -(CDEMA) has been working alongside the St Vincent National Emergency Management Organisation- (NEMO), the SRC and the Regional Security System -(RSS).

CDEMA has activated its regional aid operation, including the deployment of a specialist to -St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The Agency is providing technical assistance to -NEMO with Evacuation and Logistics Planning.

The Community stands with the administration and People of St Vincent and the Grenadines in this challenging situation.

St Lucian PM Allen Chastanet also promised humanitarian assistance to the St Vincent Grenadines. Carnival Cruise Line also sent two ships for the evacuating people so that it could take around 3,000 people from the red zone.

A Twitter user stated, “Cruise ships race to help evacuate 16,000 people in the red zone on the Caribbean island of St. Vincent as La Soufriere volcano is expected to erupt at any moment. Last erupted in 1979.
