Two sailors to represent St Kitts and Nevis in Caribbean Dinghy Championship

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Two sailors, namely Amadi Byron-Hendrickson and Nickhail Rogers, represent St Kitts and Nevus in the upcoming Caribbean Sailing Association Caribbean Dinghy Championship (CDC).

The championship will be hosted by the Cercle Nautique de Schoelcher (CNS) in Martinique from October 27- October 29, 2023.

Amadi Byron Hendrickson will be competing in the ILCA 6 class, and Nickhail Rogers get involved in the ILCA 7 class. Both the sailors have been training hard for their First International Regatta.

St Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association consistently develop its sailors with the support of the St Kitts Nevis National Olympic Committee both the classes (ILCA6-ILCA7) are Olympic classes.

St Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association (SKNSA) was pleased to witness that its sailors proudly represented its country at the welcome reception of the championship and wished them fair winds for their upcoming championship.

THE CARIBBEAN Dinghy Championship is famous for its polished individual class results and its prestigious National Cup.

Caribbean Dinghy Championship 2023

The Caribbean Sailing Association took the initiative to host the 2023 Caribbean Dinghy Championship along with 23 different teams from 6 Caribbean Nations to be a part of it.

The sailors will team up in the following classes,

• ILCA 7
• ILCA 6
• ILCA 4
• Optimist and the Fusion as a duo-handed boat.

The sailors will compete for their own results per fleet, and unitedly, they will compete for the ‘Nations Cup’, which will decide the best team results from the various Caribbean Islands.

Antigua is a team to watch, as in 2019 and 2022, they won the CDC and took the Nations Cup home. The 2022 championship was held by the Sint Maarten Yacht Club.

1. The Antigua Yacht Club representing Antigua
2. The Sint Maarten Yacht Club supporting Sint Maarten
3. St Kitts and Nevis is being represented by the St Kitts Yacht Club and the Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Centre
4. Trinidad and Tobago will be a representative of the Trinidad and Tobago Sailing Academy
5. Club Set Sail and The Barbados Sailing Association have the vote for Barbados
6. Martinique represents sailors from Fort de France, Le Marin, Le Robert and Cercle Nautique de Schoelcher

Schedule for the matches 

As per the Caribbean Sailing Association, it has been notified that,

• Team Antigua is competing in all ILCA classes, with Ozani Lafond sailing the ILCA 6, Patrick Greensmith racing in the Optimist class, Shanoy Malone racing in the ILCA 7, and Emily Gaillard sailing ILCA 4.
• Sint Maarten’s Emma Lennox in ILCA 6, Rio Stomp in ILCA 4, Frits Bus racing in the ILCA 7, Nathan Sheppard in the Optimist class, Oskar Jarret Versteegden and Veronica Destin in the Fusion class.
• Trinidad and Tobago will be represented by the six sailors: Stuvan Steven racing in the ILCA 6, Josiah Alexis in ILCA 7, Issac Modeste and Levi Browne in the Fusion class, Kyle Di’luran in ILCA 4 and Sariyah Stoute in the Optimist class.
• Amadi Bryson Hendrickson will sail for St Kitts and Nevis in the ILCA 6, along with Nickhail Rogers in the ILCA 7.
• Joseph Whealan will represent Barbados in the ILCA 6, and Savannah Stuart racing in the ILCA 4.
• Six sailors will represent Martinique- the hosting country such as Marius Malody in ILCA 6, Camillo Sosa and Nicolas Sevan in the Fusion, Luka Moreau D’Hallene in ILCA 4, Luka Rose Eloise in the Optimist class and Bruno Aglae in ILCA 7

Zach Stewart- Manager of the team, expressed his gratitude to be a part of this championship as it is organised after the years of COVID.

The President of the Cercle Nautique de Schoelcher- Olivier Rene Corail, welcomes all the teams during the opening ceremony of the 2023 Caribbean Championship, which was held in Martinique on October 26, 2023.

He focused on the importance of the association between the Caribbean islands as they all are neighbours to each other.
