Twenty-two Venezuelans detained by Trinidad and Tobago’s officials

The officers of Cedros and Erin Police Station detained Twenty-two Venezuelans for illegally entering Trinidad. The officials conducted an exercise on Monday, 27th November 2023 and detained 22 illegal immigrants.
Police officers were heading towards Erin Beach and on reaching there, they met members of the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard.
Sub-Lieutenant Diaz, the representative of the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard and Richie Roopnarine, head member of the Customs and Excise, handed over the immigrants who were arrested.
The vessel full of illegal immigrants was stopped along the coastline of the Erin Beach front.
According to the reports, the other immigrants ran into some nearby bushes in order to save themselves from the arrest of police officials.
But, the Police officers, along with the members of Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard and Customs and Excise, moved approximately 400 feet off the Buenos Ayres main road. On reaching there, the authorities detained the other illegal immigrants.
A total of 22 members were detained, out of which 11 members were eleven males and eleven females.
As per the information, out of all those detained ones, seven were minors.
Therefore, all the illegal immigrants were taken to the Erin and Cedros Police Station to keep them safe. Also, further enquiries are ongoing into the matter.
The exercise was conducted by PCs Collins, Gopual and WPC Downing.
Moreover, a similar case happened a few years back, too, when the officers of the South Western Division Task Force detained 22 Venezuelans for illegally entering Trinidad on Sunday, 16th August 2020.
According to the sources, the officials received information that a boat filled with Venezuelan nationals was seen walking from the Palo Seco Beach and were proceeding to the James Street area.
As soon as the officers received the news, they reacted to the matter and started an investigation, which led to the arrest of 22 illegal immigrants.
Firstly, the detained immigrants were taken to Siparia Health Facility, where they were examined by the doctors. Subsequently, they were photographed at the Siparia Police Headquarters and then the authorities took them to the Erin Police Station.
This exercise was conducted by Senior Superintendent John, Asp Ramdeen and Inspector Simon. The matter was supervised by Sgt Breedy and Cpl Prince.
