“There is only one planet and no Planet B,” states UNESCO, emphasizes biodiversity preservation

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) raises awareness for a better future through collective efforts to restore and protect the incredible biodiversity.

“Let’s build a future where harmony with nature is the top priority,” stated UNESCO

Such a statement by UNESCO states that there is a need for people to come together to work on the development of the region for the green planet. And there are certain facts which pose a greater threat to the sustainability of the region. 

The organization is continuously sharing updates on their social media to raise awareness for the same. Earlier this month, 430 million metric tonnes of plastics are produced each year. 

Such a quantity alerts the population to reduce the usage of plastics to beat plastic pollution where it has also been projected that it will be tripled by 2060.

Not only this, biodiversity is a wide area which includes various issues to be addressed like climate, pollution, and coastal ecosystems. Further, it was also stated by the organization that 62% of countries do not have laws on climate education.

All such issues were also discussed in the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) and the Caribbean. Even in its concern, a Global Education Monitoring report is released to keep track of climate change education in 80 countries.

Interestingly, the Caribbean is diligently working towards the sustainable development of the country as the climate change education and plastic waste free islands initiatives have already been introduced in the region.

The climate change education in the region is spread as part of the climate action series- confronting the Caribbean Climate Crisis, which had about a total of five episodes for providing climate solutions to safeguard the regions.

Probing ahead, when it comes to the plastic waste free islands initiatives, the project in collaboration with the authorities and stakeholders of various Caribbean Islands have been taken. The islands include Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada and Saint Lucia have been part of this.
