Taliban administration puts restriction on woman for travelling alone

Taliban again came up with another restriction for Afghan women, as per which, a woman would not be offered a transport service unless she is being accompanied by a male relative.

The ladies who would be travelling are also advised to wear hijabs.

The remark has been issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, Sadeq Akif Muhajir.

Muhajir asserted, “Women travelling for more than – 45 miles (72 kilometres) should not be offered a ride if they are not escorted by a close family member”.

Recently, a few weeks back, the Ministry asked the television channels to stop broadcasting dramas, including soap operas, with women in them.

In a notice issued, it also asked the T.V. female journalists to wear hijab.

Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan and established its own administration, several restrictions have been imposed on the women, whether it is going to school to wearing hijabs.

Although in some of the provinces, doors of schools have been opened for girls, but still, there are parts where the girls are not having access to education.

Afghan Women have been protesting against the restrictions implemented by the Taliban.

Apart from this, in another shocking statement, the election commission of the nation has also been dissolved by the Taliban, saying that there is no need for that.

Bilal Karimi, the spokesperson of Taliban, noted, “There is no need for these commissions (Independent Election Commission (IEC)) to exist and operate”, adding, “If we ever feel a need, the Islamic Emirate will revive these commissions”.

IEC was established in the year 2006 to supervise the polls during the times of elections and to set other election-related regulations.

These restrictions and actions of the Taliban led administration clearly define where the future of the country would go, which seems to be the absolute end of democracy.
