St Kitts and Nevis appoints world champion Kim Collins as Track and Field Ambassador

Kim A. Collins has been announced as the first ever Track and Field Ambassador by St Kitts and Nevis Athletics Association. With the appointment of Collins, the association has vocalized its intention of elevating the sports sector of St Kitts and Nevis to greater heights under the guidance of this World Champion.

Notably, Collins is the first-ever Caribbean athlete to have win a gold medal in the 100m at IAAF World Championships in Paris. The 2003 World Champion continues to be a household name in track and field worldwide. His tenure in track and field on a global level has spanned over 2 decades.

Kim Collins holds a personal best and national record of 9.93 seconds for the 100m and is still the only man over 40 years to have broken the 10 second barrier. Along with that, his 6.47 seconds in the 60m is still a world record for athletes over the age of 35. He has also won the bronze medal in 200m at the 2001 World Championships in Athletics.

While shedding light on his appointment as the Track and Field Ambassador, the association asserted that they are optimism hat Collins will be instrumental in his new role as they are seeking to bring about a newness through global sponsorship to track and field.

The President of St Kitts Athletics Association, Delwayne Delaney shed light on appointing Kim Collins as the ambassador and stated that it was significant for them as a body, as an executive, and track and field on a whole, to honour their World Champion in such a way.

He further continued to say that they are living in a competitive environment and it is necessary for them to implement a strategic approach in order to position St Kitts and Nevis on a global map in sports sector.

President Delaney added that Collins has made a huge name for himself in the field of athletics and his appointment as the ambassador would play a huge role for the association in attaining recognition in hopes of acquiring sponsorships.

He added that Collins is known by several players in the sport, and by naming him as the Track and Field Ambassador, they want to ensure that his guidance can benefit not only the sports sector but also all the aspiring athletes who wish to represent St Kitts and Nevis on an international platform.
