“Religious biases will not affect govt’s decision to restrict movement amid COVID,” says PM Holness

Kingston, Jamaica: The Prime Minister of Jamaica – Andrew Holness, has stated that the religious biases will not affect the decision of the Government to restrict movement on Sundays in order to curb the rising COVID-19 cases in the island.

Prime Minister, while his address cited that, “We do not choose a day because of anybody’s worship preference. The restriction on the church is not something I take lightly. It turns out, however, that Sunday will be the least disruptive day to have no movement.”

He further added when the COVID-19 vaccination rate would rise in Jamaica, the Government then quickly will be eventually able to lift the COVID-19 restrictions.

Prime Minister was speaking during a visit to the – Braeton New Testament Church of God in St Catherine South, which was utilized as a vaccination blitz site.

The host pastor – Bishop Errol Rhule, who stated that he was encouraged by the turnout for the blitz, advised that he will continue supporting the national – COVID-19 vaccination programme by, among other things, encouraging the members of the church to get vaccinated.

Pastor asserted that “I have been trying to be an ambassador and will continue doing so, where my membership is concerned.”

As part of the Jamaican efforts to encourage more Jamaicans to get vaccinated, the Prime Minister toured South, Southeast, & East Central St Catherine on Friday, as part of the ‘Vaccine Mobilisation’ & Public Education Campaign.

During visits, besides this, the Prime Minister further urged to vaccinated people to encourage their, family members, among others, to get their doses of the vaccine.

He stated that, “I want you all to become the ambassadors, to go back into your communities, into your – households, schools, churches, and the marketplace and encourage individuals who have not yet taken the vaccine to get vaccinated.”
