Job Description
- Job Title: Senior Crown Counsel
- Reports To: Solicitor General
- Supervises: Crown Counsels and Legal Secretary
- Classification: Grade 19
Relationship and Responsibilities
The duty comes along with various responsibilities, such as the requirement of efficient and ethical legal services to the Government of Saint Lucia in matters related. However, it is not limited to the conduct of Civil Legislation, drafting, provision of legal advice and vetting of contracts and other agreements.
Notably, it is mandatory to respond to the Attorney General and Permanent Secretary whenever it is necessary on matters related to work in progress. Works under the direction of and reports to the Solicitor General.
Assigned Duties and Tasks
Some of the duties and tasks of the Senior Crown Counsel are as follows,
– Prepares, presents and represents the Government of Saint Lucia in all civil matters in the High Court and Court of Appeal.
– To guide the Crown Counsel in the conduct and progress of matters.
– They will be responsible for preparing all legal documents that are supposed to be filled out in civil matters.
– The official should function as a legal representative of the Government locally, regionally, and internationally in matters that involve constitutional and other civil issues.
– It is a must to appear in appeals in disciplinary matters before the Public Service Appeal Board and the Income Tax Appeals Tribunal.
– Reviews, vets and approves documents for Marriage Licenses, alien Licenses and any other related matter.
– To provide legal advice to all the Ministries and Government and Government Departments to ensure that the interest of the Government is safe.
– Represents the office of the Attorney General on various committees, statutory bodies, and other boards that the Government establishes
It is to be noted that the Government has put some conditions which should be taken care of when filling out the application forms. Importantly, the main condition is that the post is non-pensionable.
A person who is going to appear for the position should attain a working knowledge, ability to interpret Legislation, plan & organize work, extensive knowledge of legal principles, effective working relationships with associates & the public and ability to analyze issues.
Additionally, the application should be addressed to the Secretary of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission by Thursday, February 29, 2024.
