President Ali takes part in ‘Operation Clean up’ exercise, inspected regions

Georgetown, Guyana: President Dr Irfaan Ali joined the clean-up exercise on Sunday, January 30, 2022, where the Regional Democratic Council and other stakeholders in East Berbice were also present. 

Apart from this, the head of the state also took part in a tree planting exercise at the Fort Ordinance. Afterwards, attending both the exercises, President Ali inspected ongoing clean-up activities in New Amsterdam, undertaken by the RDC, members of the Guyana Defence Force and residents.

Among the other authorities and the government officials who accompanied the President were: the Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Nigel Dharamlall, Minister within the Ministry of Public Works Deodat Indar, Head of the Private Sector Commission, Paul Cheong, and several others. 

The President has thrown his support behind ‘Operation Clean up’, an exercise being spearheaded by the Joint Services and the private sector. 

More about ‘Operation Clean up’: 

This is a collaborative exercise, started on Thursday, January 13, 2022, by the Guyanese government, Guyana Defence Force and the private sector. The exercise was commenced in Drury Lane, Campbellville, Georgetown. 

The Ministries of Public Works, Local Government and Regional Development is seen supporting this clean-up exercise effort since it has been started. Guyana Defence Force, the Guyana Police Force and other government agencies are providing the technical and manpower support, with deployments across 13 locations including Durey Lane, Cemetery Road, Hadfield, Sussex, Princess, Smythe and Durban Streets; Regent, Robb, Church, Camp and Sheriff Streets. 

Government of Guyana further encouraged the general public to also take part in this clean-up drive.
