PM Terrance Drew visits Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw Memorial Park to pay tribute to National Heroes
PM Drew stated that they came together in faith and unity to express their gratitude for the continued protection and to seek God’s grace for the future of the nation.

St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party has revived the Heroes Day ceremony at the Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw Memorial Park to celebrate their legacy and pay a heartfelt tribute to all those heroes who have contributed to the progress and development of the nation.
This Wreath Laying Ceremony was held on Monday, September 16, 2024 in order to commemorate those who have played a pivotal role in shaping the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis. In this ceremony, the wreaths were laid at the feet of Robert’s statue by several officials.
The officials that attended the Wreath Laying Ceremony includes, Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas, Governor-General, Dame Marcella Liburd and other members of the Federal Cabinet, as well as representatives from the diplomatic and consular corps.
While sharing the glimpses of his visit, PM Terrance Drew stated that “Yesterday, we visited the Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw Memorial Park to celebrate the legacy of our national heroes.”
The ceremony at the park was stopped by the former government for some petty political reasons. However, the new Labour administration has restarted the Heroes Day ceremony at the Bradshaw Memorial Park to continue to celebrate those who have played a significant role in the development of the nation.
PM Terrance Drew stated that they will not allow the petty politics to define their actions as demonstrated by their continued recognition of Kennedy Simmonds, the only living national hero, despite political differences.
Notably, Kennedy Symonds is a St Kitts and Nevis politician who served as the first Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis from 1983 to 1995. Despite being a member of the opposition party, PM Terrance Drew and his government still honours him and recognize his contribution towards the development of the nation.
“We must put country above self,” noted PM Terrance Drew.
He therefore, asked all the citizens and residents of his country to pay homage to all their national heroes who have significantly contributed to the national development, and to recognize the families of those who have sacrificed so much in this process.
Also, the Government of St Kitts and Nevis recognized 16 nationals on National Heroes Day and called them unsung heroes who have strength the fabric of the society through their actions.
The citizens who were recognized includes, Conrad Kelly, David Huggins, Edrice Lewis-Viechweg, Hanzel Manners, Elsie Liburd-Brandy, Oliver Spencer, Orville ‘Sailor’ Thompson, Pearletta Lanns, Roslyn Hazelle, Rupert Herbert, Desmond Hobson Tyson, Allison Rouse, Jasmin ‘Jazzy D’ Clarke-Thomas, 4 Orvis Mills, Patricia Richards and Viola Manning.
On this day, the Government led by PM Terrance Drew celebrated the achievements, sacrifices and contributions of all those heroes who have attained the esteemed status of National Heroes.
Also, just a day prior, the Prime Minister Terrance Drew also spent a wonderful time at the National Service of Gratitude on Sunday. They expressed gratitude to God for his continued blessings and guidance over St Kitts and Nevis.
PM Drew stated that they came together in faith and unity to express their gratitude for the continued protection and to seek God’s grace for the future of the nation.
St Kitts and Nevis is celebrating 41st year of Independence under the theme “Together, a People, Proud and Strong: Independence 41 which aims to celebrate the collective achievements and continue to building a future which is filled with hope and togetherness.
