PM Terrance Drew participates in series of events at 79th session of UNGA

The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew started his Monday morning by joining the world leaders at the United Nations High-Level Meeting of the Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti, chaired by Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada.

PM Terrance Drew is making the best use of his presence at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79) in New York, stressing on the measures to be taken for the development of Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

During his intervention, PM Drew shed light on taking an immediate action in order to address the ongoing political and humanitarian crisis faced by Haiti.

“I reaffirmed our commitment to Haiti and reiterated the urgent need for increased international assistance and more decisive action from the global community,” noted PM Terrance Drew.

PM Drew stated that extending support through words are not enough, there is a requirement for the international nations to translate their words into tangible action. He stated that Haiti needs their collective strength now more than ever.

Following that, the Prime Minister also held a significant meeting with President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Afreximbank, Dr. Benedict Oramah. During the meeting, they discussed a number of critical investment ventures in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The Prime Minister stated that this meeting will play a huge role in enhancing the ties between the Caribbean and Africa for the mutual benefit of both regions. The highlighting agenda of the meeting was the Evergreen Aquaculture Project, an initiative which will play a huge role in boosting the seafood production and exports of the island nation.

Another topic which was discussed during the meeting was the Creative Industries Proposal which aims to harness the talents and cultural assets of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). Through this initiative, the Prime Minister is aiming to establish OECS as a creative hub on the international platform, fostering skills development, innovation and economic growth.

In addition to, the delegates also exchanged significant dialogues on the upcoming AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF) 2025. This forum will take place in Grenada, whose main motive is to deepen the ties and foster strong economic partnerships between Africa and Caribbean.

Moreover, one day prior, the PM Terrance Drew also met the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. While sharing his picture with him, he stated that he was pleased to engage in bilateral discussions with the President of Ghana.

While emphasizing on the discussions, they held, PM Drew noted that they discussed opportunities to deepen the ties between the two nations, including through reciprocal visa-free access and collaboration in the areas of trade, investment and education.

The Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew also had a productive bilateral discussion with Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Prime Minister noted that their conversation focused more on strengthening their relations, enhancing cooperation across several sectors, and advancing plans to establish Embassy and Consulate in the Kingdom.
