Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew paid a visit to Cayon High School for the distribution of the first set of laptops to students and teachers on Friday.
The distribution of the laptops was held under the Government’s One-to-One Laptop Programme. The laptops which were given to parents were fully loaded with educational tools and software.
These modern technologies will help the students meet curriculum requirements and carry a bag. Notably, tablets were distributed to primary school students earlier in the week as a part of the programme.

PM Drew stated that this innovative programme that once gave laptops to all Form One students in public and private secondary schools in both St Kitts and Nevis was roughly halted by the former administration.
Notably, the Prime Minister wanted the students to have access to technology so that they could educate themselves and not be left behind. The students will able to compete with those in India, China, and all over the world in Western Europe and so far.
“We have started to move to place the laptop programme back in place, as we want our students to have access to technology so that they can educate themselves and not be left behind. They can compete…with those in China, India, across the world in Western Europe and so forth. Even though we are small, we believe we can educate our people to compete anywhere in the world”, PM Drew commented.
It is to be noted that the intention is to distribute the laptops first to fifth-form students who will sit in the CXC examinations in the coming months.
Additionally, the administration plans to move forward with e-Education, which requires the use of ICTs to accelerate the achievement of national educational goals.

The programme further strengthened the computer literacy in schools and learning institutions. This initiative would redound to the benefit of all.
