PM Philip J Pierre appeals for responsible behaviour from developed worlds amid Climate Change

The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre reiterated his appeal to the world’s biggest carbon emitters to meet their obligations to give vulnerable Small Island Developing States a fighting chance to adapt and defend against intensifying climate hazards.

Castries, Saint Lucia: The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre reiterated his appeal to the world’s biggest carbon emitters to meet their obligations to give vulnerable Small Island Developing States a fighting chance to adapt and defend against intensifying climate hazards.

PM Pierre maintains SIDS like Saint Lucia and Grenada and stated that it should not be subjected to excessive layers of bureaucracy to access loss and damage funding facilities.

He also added that leading multinational agencies and international financial institutions should include special disaster clauses in loan agreements with Small Island Developing States to trigger pauses in loan payments in the event of a deadly climate hazard like Hurricane Beryl.

The leader of the nation further asserted that the unprecedented and catastrophic devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl is a stark reminder to all the Saint Lucians of the looming threat that island nation is facing after year during the Atlantic Hurricane season.

PM Pierre also urged every citizen and inhabitant of his island nation to take every possible precautionary measure and heed every warning in order to stay safe and protect their properties during this challenging or tough times.

Moreover, PM Pierre stated that it’s a call which he is making that these larger countries put some resources to support both the adaptation and mitigation and in fact the climate action to assist the SIDS with what is coming.

He also stated that it is just the beginning of the Hurricane Beryl, it is just the first B and they are going till Z. He asked all his residents to work together to deal with its devastating effects and to come with one voice to these developed countries and these institutions.

The Prime Minister also shed light on the negotiation with the Saudi loan and noted that they put in a climate cause. He stated that there’s a need for negotiation in all the agreements with IFCs. He added that the time for the talk is over, and there is a need to give some support to the small island nations and help them in such a challenging phase.
