PM Mia Mottley mourns the death of former Minister Rudolph Greenidge

Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, offered her condolences to friends and family of former Minister Rudolph “Cappy” Greenidge, in a statement she released on Friday saying she was heartbroken to learn of his demise.

Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, offered her condolences to friends and family of former Minister Rudolph “Cappy” Greenidge, in a statement she released on Friday saying she was heartbroken to learn of his demise.

Barbadians are mourning the death of Rudolph “Cappy” Greenidge, a former Cabinet Minister and Member of Parliament. Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, offered her condolences in a statement she released on Friday saying she was heartbroken to learn of his demise.

In his character, Mottley referred to Greenidge as a ‘gentle giant’ who had respect for others, whom she said to be calm and conformed to the Barbadian country folks’ traditional morality.

The PM also added that Marley Vale was Greenidge’s birthplace, where he was raised and eventually also met his end; he shares all the traits of the typical ‘Philippine,’ a resident of the St Philip parish.

Greenidge also had been a Member of Parliament for St Philip North, from year 1994 to the year 2003. Many people paid tribute to him, including Prime Minister Mottley with whom he worked, she watched him being a gentleman in all aspects and with a very high standard of ethics of people surrounding him.

His foundation in education could be witnessed through his teaching period at secondary schools in Barbados and in other amenities in the Cayman and Turks and Caicos Islands before charging his direction in public service.

In 1983, Greenidge proceeded to the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica to study law and despite his legal and political carriers he has never left his roots. Mottley went on to add that Greenidge’s mother, Elma Clarke, or popularly referred to as “Nana”, made sure that before the laws and politics got a hold of him, he remained grounded.

His service to the nation has been Honored in 2021 when Greenidge was among the first recipients of this Order of the Republic awards in education, sporting, civil and developmental area.

Speaking in the Parliament, Prime Minister Mottley expressed her sympathy to Greenidge’s family to which an official funeral will be planned and provided for him. Greenidge was a dedicated public servant and a gentleman and those are the memories that will last long in people’s minds.
