Dominica: Parliamentary Representative of Roseau Central constituency – Melissa Poponne-Skerrit, has taken a strong initiative to encourage the students to go back to schools post-pandemic.
Melissa, along with her team, visited the constituency to deliver the school bags as well as supplies to parents and students. She also wished ‘best of luck’ for schooling for the rest of the year.
“My hardworking Roseau Central team is on the move again! The schools’ doors have reopened; therefore, we are delivering much-needed school bags and supplies to our parents and students. I wish our students all the best for the rest of the school year. Go with God!” the parliamentary representative stated.
In early March, the Education minister of the small-island country addressed the press and notified them about the commencement of the face-to-face (physical) classes in the region.
The Minister of education was quoted as, “Prime focus to move towards the face to face classes is to engage our students in building their socio-emotional skills and improve their interactive environment by providing a safe and stimulating place to develop their social and cognitive skills.”
The education minister further described the ill-effects of the online classes and mentioned that many students had faced disadvantages due to inconsistent internet service. Our schools serve as safe and secure spaces for teaching and learning, and for students, it is a gateway for social interaction and support”.
