Labourer charged for firing gun at CID officer of Suddie Police Station
Rajendra Moniram, a 23-year-old labourer, was arrested for firing a gun at a Police Detective of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Suddie Police Station.

Georgetown, Guyana: Rajendra Moniram, a 23-year-old labourer, was arrested for firing a gun at a Police Detective of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Suddie Police Station.
Moniram was identified as a resident of Lot 1023 Onderneeming Sand Pit near Essequibo Coast.
It is to be noted that he was charged with an offence of Discharging a Loaded Firearm with Intent Committed on Hakim Atkins Police Detective Corporal 21084. The incident occurred on Friday, September 29, at Onderneeming Sand Pit, Essequibo Coast.
Notably, the case was heard virtually at the Wakenaam Magistrate’s Court before Ms Esther Sam, where the charge was read to the suspect.
However, he was not required to plea to the act (charge), and he was granted bail for $500,000.
Further to this, the case was adjourned to January 26, 2023, at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court for a report on legal advice and disclosure of statements.
This news gained lots of opinions and viewpoints as it spread on social media platforms immediately. While reacting to the post, one such comment by the name of Cecil Cappel read as “Gunman wow”, and responding to this comment, a person named Radica Rodrigues replied, “People don’t know the story but them just like to talk.. but god is the judge.”
Another person by the name of Fazlu Baksh wrote, “What really going on with these young men? Complete ignorance?”
While Chris Brotherson, another Facebook user stated, “These types of people figure they’re bad.”
Additionally, nowadays, crimes happen every single day, which risks the lives of the common people and is a threat to the nation and its citizens.
There is an immediate need to tackle such cases, and laws should be strictly followed as well in order to deal with such terrible cases.
Such incidents highlight the need for stringent action to ensure the security of citizens. It must also be understood that the crime of attacking and disrespecting any officer is a serious offence.
