Kabayan ballers are set to compete in Congressional Cup, 2023 in the upcoming month of November.

Trinidad- Kabayan Local Government Unit, announced that Team Kabayan was not able to bag their 2nd win in the ‘Congressman Eric G. Yap Congressional Cup’, after a two-point lead game with ‘Team Buguias’ on October 1, 2023, at the Benguet State University (BSU) Gym, La Trinidad, Benguet.

The inaugural season of the cup started on September 16, 2023, at the Benguet State University gymnasium in La Trinidad, Benguet.

During the fierce game, the Kabayan supporters cheers dominated proceedings, steered by ‘Honourable Ghislyn Ghislynflucio F. Lucio-Marave.’

Ghislyn Ghislynflucio F. Lucio-Marave is a candidate for ‘Member, Sangguniang Bayan’, which is the legislative body of a municipality in the Philippines.

She is running as an independent candidate without a party affiliation. She is running for the post in Kabayan, Benguet.

Despite the fourth loss, the Kabayan ballers have a never-say-die attitude, which they will channel for their upcoming games scheduled for:

14 Benguet teams in the field for Congressional Cup titles:

Fourteen teams from the 13 municipalities will see action in the first Congressional Cup. It will include both the young and veteran cagers in a single round-robin competition where all towns could play host.

Oath of sportsmanship:

The 280 players took their oath of sportsmanship as they commenced the three months of long competition. It will take players to the mining towns of Mankayan in the north, Tuba and Itogon down south, as high as Mount Pulag in Kabayn and the former highest highway in the cloud-kissed Atok.

Series of Competition:

The press release states that games are scheduled on weekends, every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The competition will be followed by the series mentioned below-

  • The elimination round is supposed to be finished by the first week of November.
  • The top eight teams will advance to the quarterfinals, with the top four teams enjoying a twice-to-beat edge against the lowest-seeded team.
  • Winners in the quarterfinals will advance to the final four, where the top and lowest seeds face each other, and the higher seed gets a twice-to-beat advantage.
  • The winners in the semifinals will vie for the cup in a best-of-three format.
  • Cash prizes lie in wait for winners and consolation prizes to the non-winning teams.
  • Special prizes will be awarded to honour the top-performing players in both winning and losing teams.
  • The most valuable player will be named, including selection for the mythical five and second team.
  • The awarding ceremony will take place during the last day of the ‘Adivay Festival Celebration.’
