Trelawny, Jamaica: A 40-year-old Joel Coke alias Oneil, a resident of Troy District, Trelawny, was shot to death on Sunday. It is to be noted that this is marked as the second murder case in the parish by the Trelawny police division of Jamaica Constabulary Force for the year 2024.

As per the details shared by Falmouth police, Coke was sitting on his motor vehicle on the Troy main road. Therefore, two unknown men approached the victim. One of the suspects was armed with a weapon.

The man with a gun, shot Joel Coke multiple times in his upper body. Subsequently, both the suspects flew away from the crime spot. Therefore, the victim was taken to the hospital. On reaching the hospital, the doctors on duty examined the victim and pronounced him dead.

Moreover, the details about suspects have not been known yet. However, the authorities are trying their best to get the suspects arrested for their offences.

The residents of the community took to their social media accounts and expressed their views on this matter. One person commented, “Nowhere in Jamaica is safe. I remember when Christiana, Troy, Alps, Clarks Town and so many more places were safe. I strongly believe people refuse to or do not know how to settle differences peacefully.”

Another person with a Facebook handle, Jennifer Jenkins, wrote, “So sad…when will all this crime and violence stop? My goodness, they don’t think about the broken homes, not even think about the children. So heartless.”

“Two persons on a bike should be a penalty of 50,000 + 6 months in prison or nonpayment and two years in prison. This big thing is serious to everyone. Change the laws to save lives, “commented Aaron Neely Thomas.

Furthermore, the authorities are thoroughly investigating the matter in order to put the murderers of Joel Coke behind bars for the offence they both committed. The Trelawny police have assured that they are taking the best possible measures to ensure the safety and security of the residents.

Notably, it has been observed that in the same area, another murder was witnessed in the same month by the Trelawny Police and they charged 56-year-old Sylvia Montaque Brown with the offence of killing her 59-year-old husband, David Brown.

According to the authorities, the lifeless, blood-drenched, bludgeoned body of the victim was found near the Wakefield home that the victim and his wife used to share. David Brown’s body reportedly was found on a sheet of zinc.

As per the reports, along with Sylvia Montaque Brown, her brother, 60-year-old gardener Lester “Judge” Montague, has also been charged with murder in connection with the killing.

The country’s residents have requested that the authorities take stringent measures to control the increasing crime rate.
