Jamaica sets new benchmark, records 1 million tourists since beginning of 2024

Jamaica’s Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett expressed his delight as the nation has achieved a milestone with an astounding figure of one million visitors on its island since the beginning of 2024.

Kingston, Jamaica: The Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett expressed his delight as the nation has achieved a milestone with an astounding figure of one million visitors on its island since the beginning of 2024. 

This achievement has brought the nation a benefit of USD 1 billion in foreign exchange. The tourism minister Bartlett revealed the number of travellers during a Caribbean Hotel and Tourist Association (CHTA) Caribbean Travel Marketplace press conference. 

Noting this, the press conference was held on Thursday at the Jamaica Tourist Board office in New Kingston. The Minister expressed his joy for the tour guide team who have contributed to this growth. 

“I am particularly proud of the level of growth we have had post-COVID. Normally, 2019 was used as our benchmark for growth, but 2023 is now that new benchmark as we broke two important barriers- welcoming four million visitors and earning US$ 4.2 billion”, added Barlette. 

He underscores that the number of travellers has increased as compared to the previous years, which benefitted the tourism sector and enhanced the economy of the nation. 

Number of travellers visit Jamaica

In January and February, the island nation recorded the arrivals of 611,642 travellers and 389,319 cruise visitors, which contributed to an increase of 7.4 per cent and 29.7 per cent, respectively.

Jamaica noted a ground-breaking achievement as it welcomed a total of 1,000,961 passengers, which is almost equal to an increase of 15.1 per cent since the beginning of the year 2024. Noting this, the country has been benefitted by an increase of 8.5 per cent, corresponding to the last year in tourism.

“We continue to work with our tourism partners across the globe to ensure that our tourism offerings remain top of the line. Jamaica provides unique and authentic experiences that keep visitors coming back”, stated the Director of Tourism Donovan White. 

The country’s vibrant culture, tradition and rich heritage have attracted visitors to the island. The travellers received warm hospitality, which made their arrival a memorable one.

Jamaica proved to be one of the top destinations for those seeking adventure and relaxation.

Additionally, the country is set to host the 42nd staging of the travel show in the region, Caribbean Travel Marketplace. The event will be scheduled to be held from May 20-22, 2024, at Montego Bay Convention Centre in St James. 

This prestigious travel show will bring approximately 150 buyers companies and 1,000 delegates.
