Georgetown, Guyana: Dr Frank Anthony, Minister of Health, on Saturday morning, handed over a new digital X-Ray machine to the Diamond Regional Hospital valued at GY100M, according to the latest update shared by the Ministry of Health of Guyana.

The machine was received by Dr Gavinash Persaud, Regional Health Officer of Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica); the ministry further informed the general public of the nation.

During his brief remarks, Dr Anthony indicated that through the new technology, the X-Ray films/images would be stored on the electronic database, which will allow medical practitioners to access patients’ records at the country’s main referral hospital or any other health facility which utilises the same machine.

Diamond Regional Hospital was officially re-commissioned as a “SMART” Hospital following upgrades to the tune of $222 million, which aided in the implementation of new safety measures, contingency provisions, and green technology to provide the community with a much-improved patient experience and service.

The ministry has anticipated that this project will increase the medical and healthcare facilities for the people of Guyana. The Minister of Health of Guyana expressed gratitude while welcoming the project. He stated that this instalment will contribute towards the upliftment and development of the small island Caribbean nation.
