Guyana’s Ministry of Labour to regularise Ann’s Grove/Clonbrook Housing Scheme

Georgetown, Guyana: The Ministry of Labour of Guyana has announced that the government will soon regularise many sections in the Ann’s Grove/Clonbrook housing scheme on East Coast Demerara.

As per the update by the ministry, Sertimer Scheme/Ann’s Grove and Doch Cab Housing Scheme, where 187 families will get Certificates of Title in the latter area. This comes after a ministerial outreach at Ann’s Grove Secondary School on Saturday, April 22nd, 2023.

This meeting was headed by Joseph Hamilton, Minister of Labour, Attorney General, and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, Minister of Housing and Water, and other authorities, according to the official statement.

The social media post by the ministry further outlined that Minister Hamilton told locals that his ministry would work tirelessly to remedy land ownership issues, particularly those overseen by Cooperative Societies. He also asked the coops’ management to cooperate with the ministry in this endeavour.

Further, it stated that Minister Croal stated that on Wednesday, April 29th, 2023, a team from his ministry will return to the community to perform an Occupational Survey. He stated that this method would enable the government’s objective to kick off the regularisation process.

Minister Nandlall also informed households that a nominal fee would be charged to facilitate this process.

The ministry furthermore outlined that the organised activity is part of the government’s ‘One Guyana’ effort, which aims to enhance citizens’ lives.

On the same day, Joseph Hamilton, Minister of Labour, Mohair Anil Nandlall, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Mohair Anil Nandlall, and Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal met with Ann’s Grove and Clonbrook residents, the Ministry informed.

According to the official update, the meeting, held at Ann’s Grove Secondary School on East Coast Demerara, aims to discuss land ownership disputes. The meeting was a follow-up with residents after a Ministerial outreach earlier this month.
