Guyana police conducts search operation, arrests 4 people and seizes several illegal items

Georgetown, Guyana: The ranked officers held search operations at the premises of the Regional Division #10. The exercise was held on Friday, 12th April and the authorities seized several illegal items and arrested 4 people. 

During the exercise, the officials conducted a raid at the premises of a 39-year-old man, a resident of Half Mile, Wismar Linden. The authorities conducted a search and found a plastic bag which contained leaves, seeds and stems which were suspected to be cannabis. The man was told of the offence he had committed and was cautioned for the same and arrested by the officers. 

Following that, the ranked authorities held a search at the residence of two men, in which one was a truck driver and the other was a Pork-knocker and both were 28 years old. At their house, the officials observed one of the two men threw an object through a window. 

Subsequently, the officers retrieved the object, and it proved to be a firearm, which was further examined and contained 11 live 9MM rounds in the magazine. The further investigation led to the seizure of a camouflage shirt, that was found in a bedroom. These items led to the arrest of both suspects. 

The authorities went to another residence and arrested the 39-year-old for the offence of possessing cannabis. The cannabis found was taken to the Wismar Police Station, where the seized items were weighed and it amounted to 18 grams. 

The two 28-year-old suspects were taken to the Mackenzie Police Station, where the items seized from them, which included a firearm, ammunition and camouflage shirt, were lodged. Meanwhile, the other suspects remain in police custody. 

Several residents of Guyana took to their social media accounts and expressed their views and opinions on the incident and appreciated the authorities. 

One person commented “Authorities should more often conduct such operations in order to reduce crime activity in the nation. All the culprits caught should be punished and all these illegal items should be destroyed, God knows what would they have done with all this.”

The community residents have urged the officials to continue conducting such operations, with the motive of diminishing crime rates.
