Guyana officers arrested man for possessing illegal firearm during mobile patrol duty
A 32-year-old man was arrested for the offence of possessing an illegal firearm on Thursday, 4th April 2024. The apprehension of the suspect was conducted while the officers were on mobile patrol duty in the near surroundings of the Anna Regina Police Headquarters.

Georgetown, Guyana: A 32-year-old man was arrested for the offence of possessing an illegal firearm on Thursday, 4th April 2024. The apprehension of the suspect was conducted while the officers were on mobile patrol duty in the near surroundings of the Anna Regina Police Headquarters.
The suspect has been identified as Cleon Alphonso, an unemployed resident of Henrietta, Essequibo Coast, Guyana. As per the details shared by the authorities, they were on patrol duty when they found the suspect walking on the road.
Following that, the ranked officers who were on patrol duty stopped the suspect, conducted a search of that person and found possession of a firearm with one magazine of ammunition.
Subsequently, the authorities asked the suspect if he held a license of the firearm to which he replied no and was later told of the offence he committed. The suspect was cautioned for the same and was later arrested for the offence of illegally possessing firearms and ammunition.
The suspect is still in custody and the officers are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. Soon after the incident, the residents of the community took to their social media accounts and expressed their different views and opinions on the matter.
One person commented “This person could have done anything with this gun, it is good that the officers stopped him and held a search on him. This is how only they will be able to reduce crime rate and will able to contribute for the development of the nation.”
Another person commented the following “Nobody is allowed to roam here and there with the possession of a gun and the one who doesn’t even hold a license to carry it. I wonder how these people carry the guts to keep that illegal firearm with them.”
The residents have appreciated the authorities’ constant efforts in curbing the increasing crime rates. They have lauded the officers for conducting such exercises and making sure that the nation’s residents are safe and secure.
