Guyana: Man nabbed with 119 grams of Marijuana

A 38-year-old unemployed resident of Buxton was apprehended at around 2:00 hrs by high ranked officials of Guyana on Sunday, 24 December 2023.
Notably, the police officers went to the East Coast Demerara, where they contacted the suspect and conducted a search on him.
While conducting the search, the authorities nabbed thirty-eight transparent zip lock bags which contained leaves, seeds and stems which were suspected to be narcotics (Marijuana). These were found in two pringle containers and the officers also found a quantity of transparent zip lock bags containing fronto and bamboo leaves.
The suspect was told of the offence committed. He was arrested and taken to the Vigilance Police Station along with the suspected narcotics. On weighing the narcotics, it weighed equal to 119 grams of marijuana.
Several people have expressed their sentiments on this, adding that, “Just let poor people live, this stuff is legal in America.” While, another person stated that “Front is a real word for real? I think because it’s a media and they should have great editing and vocabulary skills they should’ve used the term Tobacco leaves. Don’t say Fronto leave that for the streets.”
Moreover, one more case occurred where CANU officials conducted an operation on 21st December 2023 between Adventure, Good Hope, Essequibo Coast where they stopped a motor car.
Subsequently, the authorities held a search of that motor vehicle and on searching the vehicle, the officers found a quantity of suspected cannabis.
The higher ranked officers apprehended 42-year-old Mitztroy Dash, a resident of Good Hope Essequibo and 32-year-old Rayborn Gordon, a resident of Lima Sand, Essequibo.
The officers took them to the CANU headquarters along with the suspected cannabis. The narcotics weighed equall to 2.4 kg with a street value of approximately GUY $1M.
Furthermore, the investigations into the matter are ongoing.
This case also received a lot of public response. Out of which one comment read as, “They will be remanded, but murderers get bail, lawless country.”
