Guyana: Man commits suicide after stabbing ex-partner
A 34-year-old, Navindra Sam, a farmer of Upper Bonasika Creek Essequibo River and Hyde Park Parika and a resident of East Bank Essequibo, Guyana committed suicide after stabbing his ex-wife, Farida Blake.

A 34-year-old, Navindra Sam, a farmer of Upper Bonasika Creek Essequibo River and Hyde Park Parika and a resident of East Bank Essequibo, Guyana committed suicide after stabbing his ex-wife, Farida Blake.
Notably, the incident took place on 26 December 2023 at around 7:00 hrs at Hyde Park, East Bank, Essequibo.
As per the information, Sam and his ex-wife were separated about eight months ago, but they both still used to communicate with each other. The victim had been living with some other man for the past 5 months at Hyde Park, ESE.
Meanwhile, Sam also shifted into a rented apartment in the lower flat of Blake’s home and has been living there for the past two weeks.
On 25 December 2023, the victim told her current partner that she would be reconciling with Sam. Her current partner replied to her that he would leave the home the next morning and would go back to his father’s house.
However, on the 25th night, the victim and Sam slept together in the bedroom in the upper flat while her present partner slept in the hammock in the living room.
On 26 December 2023, the victim’s current partner heard both the victim and Sam arguing with each other. Subsequently, the current partner of the victim kicked the bedroom door open and observed the victim was bleeding abundantly and the suspect was holding a knife in his hand.
Moreover, the victim’s son and her partner tried to save her but they were both unsuccessful whereas, the suspect also grabbed a bottle of poison and ran towards the sea wall.
It is to be noted, that the victim was later taken to the Leonora Hospital and was transferred to West Demerara Regional Hospital by ambulance as she was in critical condition with stab wounds to her neck, right hand, chest, abdomen and breast.
Further, the suspect was also taken to the Leonara Hospital by an unknown individual. He was treated for pesticide poisoning there and was then shifted to West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was admitted as a patient for observation under the officials of Guyana. Subsequently, he couldn’t survive and died the following day.
