Guyana: Labour Ministry expresses grief over incident occurred at Ramcharran’s Machine Shop
Guyana: The Ministry of Labour commenced investigations into the recent workplace fatality which occurred at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, through its Occupational Safety and Health Department.

Guyana: The Ministry of Labour commenced investigations into the recent workplace fatality which occurred at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, through its Occupational Safety and Health Department.
Senior Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Officer, Roydon Croal and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Officers Marsha Jacobs and Crystal Caesar recently visited the site conducted inspection exercise, also statements were taken from persons who witnessed the accident which occurred at Ramcharran’s Machine Shop located at Lot 139 Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.
In this accident, Deepak Patel Ramdeen a Machine Operator, lost his life while three (3) others suffered burns to their bodies. Interviews with the injured persons were also conducted at the Burns Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) following the visit to the accident site.
Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton continues to emphasize that safe work must be provided for all workers irrespective of industry and that these work-related deaths are unacceptable.
He further posits that his Ministry, through its OSH Department is aggressively tackling unsafe workplace conditions and unsafe work practices through inspections and audits to reduce the number of accidents that occur in the formal and informal economies.
The Minister sends his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and affirms that a thorough investigation will be conducted to provide answers to the many questions that may linger. Further, the Minister wished a quick recovery to the other persons who would also have sustained injuries.
