Guyana: Health Ministry officials celebrate Intl Women’s Day, host 2nd annual Health Village
The world celebrated International Women’s Day 2023 on March 8; all the people showered love and support towards the ladies, who are regularly fighting and working hard to make their strong identity.

Georgetown, Guyana: The world celebrated International Women’s Day 2023 on March 8; all the people showered love and support towards the ladies, who are regularly fighting and working hard to make their strong identity.
To commemorate International Women’s Day, the Ministry of Health, Women’s Health Department, on Wednesday, March 8, hosted its 2nd annual Women’s Health Village at the Police Officer’s Training Centre (OTC) in Eve Leary.
According to the update by the Ministry, the event was held not only as a celebration of the achievements of women but to raise awareness and encourage them to take care of their health.
The services provided at yesterday’s Women’s Village were Visual Inspection Using Acetic Acid (VIA) screening for cervical cancer, breast examinations, HIV/Hepatitis B testing, Body Mass Index, consultation and counselling,
Adolescent and elderly health services. Obstetricians and gynaecologist specialists also provided specialised care.
A team from the National Blood Transfusion Service was also on-site and allowed persons to donate blood voluntarily.
The event was declared open by Dr Ertenisa Hamilton, Director of Family and Primary Health Care Services; Head of Disease Control/Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs); Dr Latchmie Lall and the British High Commissioner, Jane Miller.
Other officials present at the activity included the Coordinator for Women’s Health, Dr Maneke Williams; the Medical Superintendent attached to the West Demerara Regional Hospital; Dr Judy Hung and other officials and staff from the Ministry of Health and the Guyana Police Force.
Additionally, the Ministry of Health, Health Sciences Department presented fresh flower roses to all the women within the department as tokens of appreciation in observance of International Women’s Day 2023.
