Guyana: Ministry of Health’s Maternal and Child Health Department (MCH) receive donations from The United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to enhance the Ministry’s immunisation efforts.
On Friday, September 9, at the Ministry of Health’s Central Supplies Unit, Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony, along with Dr Oneka Scott, the Maternal and Child Health Officer, received 20 cold boxes and 400 vaccine carriers to support vaccine storage and transportation.
The donation was presented by Nicholas Pran, UNICEF Representative, Guyana-Suriname and Irfan Akhtar, their Deputy Representative.
Dr Frank Anthony expressed his appreciation to the organisation as they have been steadfast in their commitment to the Ministry of Health (MOH). In addition, he explained that these containers were specially designed to keep vaccines at appropriate temperatures for extensive periods, thus making it easier to carry out vaccination campaigns in distant areas.
In his brief remarks, Pran said that UNICEF is proud to support the MOH in strengthening the cold chain to maximise the Ministry’s immunisation efforts across the country.
The donated supplies will be distributed within the regions.
Also present at the simple handover ceremony were Jewel Crosse, Youth and Adolescent Development Officer and Medex Andrea Budburgh.
